"For some reason, I get confused about Billy Dean. I listen to his music, and I really like it. And then I read reviews of the same music, and it seems no one else likes him. So I get on this kick that he's not really that good. But deep down inside, I love his music, forget the critics!!!! This is a great cd to have, although, I would recomend getting the original realeases these songs were on.And when you listen to these songs, forget about every critic you have ever heard. But down to business, this release kind of has a generic feel to it. Not really any notes or anything, just his big hits thrown together to make a buck or two. Wich they had included "We Just Disagree" which is Dean's best moment. But that's fine, don't include his best song on his Greatest Hits."
Solid Greatest Hits Album

"Billy Dean seems like one of those guys who writes good songs, but can't manage to make it as an artist in the mainstream. Although he had a number of hits, he never really positioned himself as one of country music's elite. Six of the songs on this album weren't written by Mr. Dean, but he makes them his own. "Somewhere In My Broken Heart" is a good song, but it doesn't draw the attention that a slicker, though less talented, song done by a guy like John Michael Montgomery would get(By the way, I'm not picking on Montgomery, his songs are okay, but I think that Dean is so much better). I don't understand this reasoning. Dean deserves a lot more respect than he has received.Anyway, listen to this album if you like your country a little more on the mellow, folkish side. "Only the Wind" is a great track on this disc. "If There Hadn't Been You" has probably been played at a wedding or two. The standout on this album is from the "8 Seconds" soundtrack(Somebody say Luke Perry). "Once In A While" will pull on your heart whether or not you've seen the movie or even know who Lane Frost is. This song will make you cry. As a matter of fact, watch "8 Seconds" and wait till the end to hear this song. It will get you, I promise.Buy this album, you won't be dissatisfied."
