CD ReviewsExcellent Offering Mark A. Cartier | Portland, Or. USA | 01/09/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "An excellent solo album from Crazy Horse's bass player (who does not play bass but guitar on this album). The songwriting is strong and the arrangements are nice with a good band backing Billy up. A touch of Crazy Horse and some obvious other influences are present throughout with all the music and lyrics written by Billy. While not the greatest of singers, Billy's singing is surprising emotive and pleasing. Plus (if you enjoy longer songs) two songs which exceed ten minutes in length (not dreary or repetitive but solid). A very surprising CD (or maybe not) and one which I am glad to have in my collection." Billy Talbot makes great music! Gustav | New Jersey | 03/17/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "The album is made up of soft songs, the heaviest is probably Security Girl, which is still pretty soft. Billy's vocals are very soulful. The music here does not really sound like Neil Young's music. The guitars have a modern sound, and the backing muscians help get the music going. Theres guitar solos here and there. Theres even some minor flute parts and harmonica parts as well. The lead guitar kind of sounds like Pearl Jam's lead guitarist in away, but no its a guy from a local band in Billy's area.
Overall great music to relax too, if you like Neil Young or CSN&Y get this you will not be dissapointed. Its not rock & roll, or folk. Its somewhere between but hard to into a music gene." |
