CD ReviewsLet The Brain Washing Begin! Rachael Rice | Montpelier, VT USA | 11/05/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "that's a quote from kevin (bingo) himself... he is one of the most fascinating, hilarious, talented and kindest people i have ever had the pleasure of playing and smoking with. he does what i've wanted to do for years: establish the banjo as an eastern-inspired drone instrument. if you dig tripped-out country-folk with a spiritual edge and low-sung lyrics a la blacky ranchette, check out bingo. his other crew of Freak Mountain Ramblers are outstanding as well. -Rachael Rice of the Taoist Cowgirls" Everywhere is Home Mark Yokoyama | Portland, OR USA | 12/01/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "On his/their (depending on whether you think of Bingo as Kevin, or the band as a whole) first album, there's a little bit of, not everything, but a lot of things. An exception to the rule, it pretty much all "works" and even works together. Highlights include the delicate, compact, country-ish opening track, tastefully rocked-out versions of "Same Old Man" (Holy Modal Rounders) and "Walking Boss" and the Indian-influenced "Sham Ba Q'Allah" which is followed by itself played backwards, giving new meaning to "flip the tape and play it again." The interplay between banjo, sitar and fiddle is often amazing, but not overpowering when interspersed with the stoner rock and country/folk tunes."
