Amazon.comYou'd think that Birdy would have a higher profile, if only because vocalist Stephanie Seymour shares a name with a certain supermodel. Their lack of fame certainly has nothing to do with the music on their debut album, an enjoyable blend of Cheri Knight, Freedy Johnston, and the dbs, whose Gene Holder coproduced Supernominal Paraphernalia. Seymour spent time behind the drums for the Aquanettas, but she does a nice job fronting Birdy; she writes all of the songs and sings them with a voice that, like Amy Rigby's, is equally comfortable with roots rock, folk, and country. The best songs here are the rockers: "My Brave Face," which has nothing to do with the Elvis Costello-Paul McCartney song of the same name, and the catchy opener, "High As the Sun." --Randy Silver
