CD ReviewsA HUGE surprise! 11/29/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "I'm from New England and people kept talking about this pop guy with funny sideburns who was playing around Boston and that I should go see the band. I though the name was pretentious, so I blew it off. Then I caught a show and was pretty much blown away. It's great rock music, with really, really good songs. The guy ("Bleu"?) has a great voice that has a touch of desperation in it, and the songs are super catchy. So I buy the CD thinking that it's maybe going to be really lame. I mean, playing a good show is one thing, but local group's CDs are usually kinda weak.WRONG. It's an AMAZING CD!!! The band wasn't even signed, but the recording quality measures up to a major label release. It sounds really, really good and there isn't one lame song on it. I play the CD at least once a week and I find myself getting the songs in my head at odd times. So they went on to win this big New England battle-of-the-bands thing (called The Rumble) and now they're signed to a major label.Anyway, the CD is really great. If you like Matthew Sweet and Cheap Trick you'll love this stuff. The songs are more like stories than either of these two comparisons, I think M. Sweet is the closest, but Bleu's songs are a little more "real" than Sweet's if that makes any sense." BLEU IS BETTER! mojo-pin | Fairfield, CT United States | 08/25/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "I didn't know about "Bleu" until a good friend of mine, who is an Aware Records artist, played me "Searching for the Satellites" a few months back. I was very impressed. So I forgot about it for a little while, then searched for the album and just received it today in the mail. I'm am very impressed. It's a GREAT album, with a very unique sound to it. I can't place Bleu's voice exactly, but it has a bit of a Ben Folds vibe to it and a bit of an 80's quality also. That may sound like a bad mix, but it doesn't sound out of place at all, it really works very well. His lyrics are borderline comical and also deep in some instances. The subject matter seems to gravitate to just not knowing "our place in life". I can relate, I'm sure all us twenty-somethings can! I listened all the way through and my favorite tracks right now are "Searching for the Satellites", "Watchin You Sleep", and "Terrible Secret". I do enjoy the electronic "blips" mixed into songs here and there. So if you're open to Pop/Rock with a bit of an interesting edge, give it a try, you'll be glad you did!"
