"I had never heard of L. Subramaniam when I picked up "Blossom" years ago at a yard sale. For a couple bucks, worth a chance.



Maybe because I had no pre-conceived notions or advice from raters, I was surprised by -- make that exhilarated by -- this music on first listen, and have enjoyed it repeatedly over the years. (And that's why I'm giving this CD a rating of only 4 stars, high enough to get you to look, low enough to try to let you make up your own mind.)



If you've never heard Subramaniam, you'll find in "Blossom" a hugely talented jazz violinist playing songs filled with rhythm and melody. This is not background music, certainly not lifeless "cool jazz" that has somehow resisted its deserved extinction.



Go ahead, buy one of the less expensive copies of "Blossom" for sale here at Amazon ($2.41?!?). See what you think.



Dagnabbit, haven't I just ruined my chances of buying any overlooked Subramaniam CDs like Blossom from now on? Ah well, as Mom used to say, share.
