CD Reviews

Catchy BOC
Kevin P. Gibbs | Chicago, IL United States | 10/01/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I agree with most hardcore BOC fans, this isn't the strongest BOC album. I've been listening to them since 1980 so not since the beginning though I have all those recordings too. I love Fire of Unknown Origin and one of my favorite albums is Revolution by Night. I even liked Club Ninja. Heaven Forbid isn't as strong as Fire but it is more diverse than the 80s recordings. It's also very catchy. I wish Eric Bloom's voice would have had a little more growl to it though on some songs. He's a totally under rated rock singer and a great song writer. I wish he'd contributed a little more. Don't get me wrong Buck composed awesome melodies and his singing on Heaven Forbid is wonderful but one thing about BOC I've grown used to over the years is the balance between Buck and Bloom. Their songs are so different and it's refreshing to alternate between their songwriting and singing on an album.

Heaven Forbid sounds like Buck's baby and that's great. I'm glad the opening song is a real rocker and it sounds just as good as older Metallica. It's been clear to me in the past that Metallica was influenced by BOC and now I'm sure that influence is reciprocal.

Conclusion: While this isn't the best BOC album it is worth picking up. Lot's of catchy tunes and melodies and a few real rockers."
