"Career Of Evil...Subhuman...Dominance And Submission...ME 262...Cagey Cretins...Harvester Of Eyes...Flaming Telepaths...Astronomy. There are eight great songs on this album and there are eight songs on this album. Does that sum it up? This 1974 classic from Blue Oyster Cult plain rocks with some of this band's best music and best (and most sinister) lyrics. Blue Oyster Cult has always been a unique hard rock band in that their lyrics are intelligent and their musical style is unique and a little bit different from traditional hard rock bands. They're a "thinking man's" rock band. Each member of the band sings as the lead singer, with Eric Bloom doing most of the singing, followed by one of the most underrated guitarists ever, Donald Roeser. In my opinion, Roeser has the best voice with Bloom coming in a very close second.
My personal favorite songs are Career Of Evil, Subhuman, Harvester Of Eyes, Flaming Telepaths, and Astronomy. Blue Oyster Cult belong in the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame, believe me. I doubt they'll ever get in, but that's another topic I could get into to explain what the reasons are. Let's just say the voting system is extremely biased. Really, I don't think BOC cares one way or another. They know they're Hall Of Famers, and that's the most important thing. It's like Pete Rose - he knows he's a Hall Of Famer, he just hasn't gotten in. But in Rose's case, he has lost a lot of endorsement opportunities. Being a Hall Of Famer in just about anything means additional respect, opportunities, and money."
