CD Reviews

A Gem!
sonnie | 11/01/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is a quirky but lovingly-rendered collection of songs. There are touches of many familiar artists, such as Björk, Joanna Newsom, even Joni Mitchell and Sufjan Stevens (trust me, this makes a lot of sense). She's mostly folk with a dash of electronica here and there but very accessible for fans of pop music. Her voice is extremely clear and precise. Her overall tone is very whimsical but her lyrics are sophisticated and grounded. These are emotional songs without a fragile guitar-strumming waif behind them. This singer has a lot of energy and it's not the pity party that some folk albums can be.

I awarded her five stars for ten strong songs, "Rebecca" being my favorite. If you like folk, female singer-songwriters, or any of the aforementioned singers, you should do yourself a favor and pick this up."
