Indeed, "Run-Around" spent nearly a year on the Billboard singles chart. Harpman/vocalist John Popper moves easily between uptempo, rock-based tracks like "Stand" and "Crash Burn." The hidden gem here, however, is the love-struck ballad "Just Wait." Often categorized with post-Dead jam acts such as Phish, BT isn't immune from performance excesses. But when it comes to recording, they keep it (mostly) concise and always interesting. Member CD Reviews BRENDAN H. from PALO ALTO, CA Reviewed on 9/6/2011... i hate this talented band. why? because i had a roommate in college the little turd played this and the band Live only. ugh i equate it with the god-awful Dave Matthews band. all music for people who are destined to become future vanilla yuppies but want to kid themselves and fool others that they are cool and free. sensitive pony-tail poseur roommate was headed for law school. this appeals to people who tend to like pop music (simplistic melodies they can sing and commune along with to be part of the herd). i think it's musical wanking. oh i'm sorry did say what i really think? thanks tim friermuth somewhere in IL. 2 of 7 member(s) found this review helpful. Everyone owned this CD at one point or another. But perhaps you forgot how 'Hook' give you chills on a roasty summer afternoon. Or how John's solos sound like a bird in song. CD ReviewsFour for Four My Uncle Stu | Boston | 10/03/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "Four stars for an above-average studio album from an excellent live band. I tend not to listen much to the studio albums of bands that are known for their live shows, but recently rediscovered this one in my archives and enjoyed it. Not too many Blues Traveler songs are catchy, but certainly "Run Around" is and to some extent "Hook." When "Hook" first started getting radio time in the mid-nineties, I noticed it sounded very familiar but was not sure why. Then it came to: It is Pachelbel's Canon in D. It is. Same exact chords, slightly different melody. I made this observation once at work, when it first struck me, back in my file clerking days (KBCO on softly in the background), and- I swear- my boss said: "Well they better watch out, Pachelbel is going to sue them." She wasn't trying to make a joke. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep it together. But anyway. This is a good album. Popper is a tremendous harp player so, for those of you that don't get the extended jamming thing, their studio albums may be the most palatable way to experience it. Thumbs up." Blues Traveler is one of the those bands that makes the grade. Four definitely got them in the public eye and deservedly so. The energy is very high and Johnny Popper's Harmonica playing is excellent and as a rule I don't like harmonicas in music. The sounds like that come out of that Harp are incredible. Although the songs stick to a somewhat repetitive pattern, overall they are fairly catchy especially Hook, Stand, Runaround, Price To Pay, and Look Around. A very worthy purchase indeed."
