Synopsis

Album Description
Bob Berg was a favorite of audiences and fellow musicians, who could often be found in the audience at his gigs. Having played with MIles Davis, Chick Corea, Horace Silver and many other legends, Bob went on to lead his own groups in dynamic music that bridged the divide between straight ahead and contemporary jazz. Bob Berg was killed in a tragic car accident in 2002, abruptly ending a career that was still decidedly on the ascent.

Tenor Sax pride of New York City

"I had the privilege, pleasure and honor to hear Bob play live many times in Manhattan, and it was always, least to say special. Bob was a unique musician, composer and master saxophone player in many ways. He would always play with huge energy, and give his heart and soul to the performance. He was a favorite among his piers, and the last gig I saw him playing, with Kikoski on the piano, Genus on the bass, and Chambers on drums just about ten years ago, a large number of the jam packed house at the old Sweet Basil jazz club on Seventh Ave. South in NYC was comprised of musicians. Michael Brecker was there listening to the music, and admiring his friend, among others...!

This is a great tribute, with an excellent song selection, and I highly reccomend it for anyone who want's to hear awesome, and inspiring tenor sax playing...

Bless you Mr. Berg, you will never be forgotten!"
Bob Berg -- gone, but never forgotten...

"It was a shock to hear the sad news that Bob Berg had died. I found out a year or two after the fact, when looking to see if he had anything new out. He did - this posthumous CD.

I became acquainted with Bob Berg's playing from listening to him as a sideman on guitarist Mike Stern's 80s recordings. He also played on an album of Leni Stern, "Secrets," (Mike's wife and also a fine guitarist) -- and I thought, "Wow, that horn player really plays every note with real intensity," or something like that. It was Bob Berg and his playing demanded further investigation.

That in a nutshell, was Bob Berg. Every recording I've heard him on (never did get to see him in person to my knowledge), he just BLEW, you know?

This compilation, "Remembering," gives us the essence of his playing, much of it with Mike Stern, which would be necessary in any case, as the two of them in collaboration always seemed to raise the bar ever higher --in virtuosity and intensity.

I'm not exactly sure which label to put on his style. Post-bop-fusion, maybe, but he got into the traditional bop thing and could be lyrical as well. Bob Berg just BLEW with considerable talent and great intensity on everything I've heard him play, so if that helps you make a buying decision, then don't hesitate to check this CD out.

This CD is a great tribute to his talent and his music.
