"I recently had the privilege of hearing Bob Kindred live. I had never heard of him before, had no expectations when I saw his name on the program, and was blown away by the calibre of his performance. His tone is luscious and full.. in the tradition of Coleman Hawkins. His candenzas and improvisations seem deceptively effortless, and are rendered with impeccable taste and judicious precision. The evening I heard Bob, he played as a member of a small ensemble accompanying a local vocal celebrity. Perhaps heretically, I found myself paying attention to him instead of the singer, and wanting more, much more of his music when the evening was over. If you like Hawkins or Ben Webster, then buy this cd."
