"THIS ALBUM CONTAINS THE FINEST IN WEST COAST SAN FRANCISCO JAZZ FROM THE FIFTY'S. CLANCY HAYES WHO AS ONE OF HIS ALBUM'S STATES WAS A WALKING ANTHOLOGY OF FOLK MUSIC. THE DIXIELAND JAZZ LOVER NEEDS ONLY TO LISTEN TO ACE IN THE HOLE & SILVER DOLLAR, TWO OF THE SELECTIONS ON THIS TAPE TO GET A FEELING FOR THE PERFECT MATCH SCOBEY AND HAYES WERE IN THIS GOLDEN AGE OF FRISCO JAZZ. THEY HAVE BOTH PASSED ON BUT THERE LEGACY AND ARTISTRY WILL LIVE ON FOREVER. IF YOU LOVE DIXIELAND THE SPECIAL FEELING THESE SUPERB ARTISTS LENT TO THIS NOSTALGIC MUSIC WILL MAKE YOU A FAN FOREVER."
Bob Scoby's Frisco Band, The Scoby Story Vol. 2

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a companion with Vol. 1, which are reissues of the Scoby hits on Good Time Jazz LPs. Scoby carried on the San Francisco revival of traditional jazz started by Lu Watters, kept going by Turk Murphy. Scoby was a top trumpet and had great Frisco musicians working with him. The band became popular because of Clancy Hayes vocals, and this CD has some wonderful Hayes vocals. It's a shame that recordings in those days were kept to about 3 minutes each tune, as it would be great to hear more of the musicians doing solo work. This is a must for your trad jazz collection."

"Although the music was great, I am not much for vocals with Dixieland music. Do you have any Scobey music without the v ocals?"
