Barney ... My most favorite blues yet.

"Bobby "Blue" Bland had done great job in this album. Every single song in this album is great. If you have heard these songs in his other albums, I am telling you, they are completely different in this album. All the songs are enhanced with great music that are different that his other albums. This is the second time I am buying this album; since my first one was stolen from me."

"I found a vinyl LP of this album @ a vintage shop in Wilmington NC. Through the scratchy grooves came some of the most powerful soulful blues I've heard. It sparked my living room with complete surprise. I'm so glad the CD version is available. It is well worth seeking out 35 years after the album was first released! The set opens with "This Time I'm Gone for Good," a slow ballad with Bobby milking every ounce of feeling with some incredibly juicy blues guitar, "I should've stayed gone when I left before; You do me wrong when we're together, but I keep coming back for more." Liner notes indicate the track went to #5 on the R&B charts. Vernon Morrison & Deadrick Malone's "Up & Down World" continues the soulful groove. Gerry Goffin wrote the lyrics to "It's Not the Spotlight"; and the song's opening has an eerie similarity to Carole King's "Child of Mine" from her Writer CD. "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right" has more of that lovely slow soul that mirrors a Me-&-Mrs.-Jones theme. "Going Down Slow" also went to the R&B top twenty with Michael Omartian's piano oozing loads of feeling to match Bland's vocal chops. "The Right Place at the Right Time" opens with a peppy "Grazing in the Grass" percussion and then blossoms into a lovely pop blues. Leon Russell wrote "Help Me Through the Day" that was recently recorded by John Mayall & cuts a classic blues ache. "Where My Baby Went" is another strong workingman's blues. "I've Got to Use My Imagination" closes the CD with another classic track. Joan Osborne recently recorded it on her Breakfast in Bed CD as well as versions by Joe Cocker from his One Night of Sin CD and versions by Gladys Knight & Tom Jones. "His California Album" is a stunning set that sounds fresh 35 years later. Don't miss it! Enjoy!"
