An attempt at clearing the clutter

"Too often the Boccherini Cello sonatas are given a ponderous victorian reading, with the continuo accompaniment often played on piano. Here, Richard Lester has returned to the original texts as much as possible, noting that the continuo is generally a bass line only or has cellistic double (and triple) stops and has chosen to play the sonatas with the accompaniment being a single cello (or double bass on two of the sonatas). The result is a surprisingly up-tempo and pleasant reading of the sonatas which gives new light to them."
A good CD to listen to while being car jacked...

"Some of the pieces are a little disappointing, perhaps mediocre, but the good sonatas are GREAT, and Richard Lester's playing is superior to any other cellist I have heard. I want to hear him play everything ever written for the cello. He's a fine musician."
