"Some of Boccherini's concertos for violoncello and orchestra are played by Tafelmusik using period instruments, which gives these sessions a feeling of freshness and authenticity. The sound quality of the recording is superb, and the playing is excellent. The selections are outstanding. Boccherini writes inventive and beautiful melodies that seem to unfold effortlessly and organically. He allows the various instruments to alternate and recombine to create a variety of intriguing sound textures. Throughout, the listener is pleasantly surprised and delighted by the experience.A more technical description of Boccherini's unconventional techniques are detailed in the liner notes by David Montgomery. The booklet also lists the specific instruments/makers used on the recording. After reading the booklet and listening to the CD, you might realize that Boccherini's triumph is that his inventiveness gives his music its timeless appeal and a modern sensibility.Anyone interested in Italian baroque should DEFINITELY own this CD. Kudos to Sony Classical for putting together a first-class product. I give this recording the highest possible rating!"
