CD ReviewsTHE BOOK KEEPS COOKIN' John M. | 12/27/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is a 1961 quartet date with a rhythm section led by Horace Parlan. For all his recording for Prestige and Blue Note he never buckeled down and played a slow blues but here it is- Booker's Blues- 11 min.of it. Don't be misled by something called The Trance on Prestige. It's OK in itself but it's not really down tempoed enough. Booker as well as Grant Green appear on Horace Parlan's Blue Note session UP&DOWN although they are making a rarity out of it pricewise for the moment. Booker has the ballad feature- Lonely One.--- Also Booker with Charles Mingus- MINGUS IN WONDERLAND - a well recorded Live set with John Handy on Alto, Booker, and a rhythm section led by Richard Wyands. Powerful simplicity."
