Synopsis

Album Description
Here is the debut CD from an exciting ensemble of ten talented violinists and fiddlers, representing a wonderful array of genres and styles. You'll hear: classical, jazz, country, rock, old-time, Texas-style, Bluegrass, Gypsy, Celtic and more. The music is both a showcase for the virtuosity of the musicians, and a tribute to the amazingly versatile, complex and lyrically romantic violin. Their performances are "an evening of show-stopping hits strung together in glorious sequence... an awesome range of music. If it's violin or fiddle music you're after, you can't go wrong with Bowfire." - Robert Reid, Kitchener-Waterloo Record. Assembled by acclaimed jazz violinist Lenny Solomon, the group's Artistic Director, the CD features eleven violinists, piano, bass, drums, guitar, and cello. Lenny is joined by the ten other acclaimed violinists: Quebecois jazz talent Stephane Allard; classical virtuosos Moshe Hammer, Lara St. John, Scott St. John and Peter De Sotto; Bluegrass fiddler Ray Legere; George Gao, virtuoso of the Chinese erhu (commonly known in the West as the 'Chinese violin', this two-stringed bowed instrument is capable of producing sad, mysterious, or joyful melodies); Celtic fiddler Richard Wood; fiddler Shane Cook, and Daniel Lapp, whose wide-ranging interests embrace a host of modern styles.

An instant favorite!

"This is a great CD which invokes wonderful memories of the show. My wife and I took our son last year and became fans. We saw Lara St. John perform recently and already have tickets for the next Bowfire show in our area 4 months in advance.

There's not a bad track on this CD. Don't miss track 14 "Galloping Horses" featuring George Gao on the Chinese urhu. It blew me away and became an instant all time favorite when I saw it performed . I play it all the time."
Fantastic

"I saw them in concert and was blown away by them! A fantastic mix of different genres of music all played exceptionally well. Very catchy, upbeat songs that you will not tire of. If you get the opportunity to see them in concert - go -- the CD, although good, doesn't do them justice!!"
Superb

"This CD is excellent. It is diverse. The Csarda is played by lara St. John, and she's phenomenal. Track 14 is a Chinese piece that uses the erhu. There are also great classical pieces, and fun fiddle tunes, all played superbly. This CD is a must."
