Synopsis
Album Description From recent press clips: - All Access Magazine voted Wilson "Best Songwriter" in 2003, an honor that thrilled Wilson. "It was so wonderful to think that people get really close and listen to the words," Wilson says. "It's more exciting than saying best band or best singer. Songwriting is what makes the music industry so special. People find a song they want to listen to over and over. I fall in love with songs all the time." - For the first track, "Black Coffee At Sunrise," Wilson read an article about Hank Williams, Sr. that stated how he would tour America in big Cadillacs, traveling from gig to gig, running them into the ground. Then they would buy a new one. They'd have a convoy. "This was pre-Elvis. I was thinking that Hank would be up all night trying to get to the next gig in his big Cadillac. Those Fifties Caddys with the giant fins and huge trunks would hold all their gear. I wrote this song, just thinking about what it would be like to tour with Hank." - "Cruisin' The Coast" is an instrumental guitar song that captures the amazing experience of driving the Pacific Coast Highway on the California coastline. - Wilson's guitar style and songwriting chops are entirely his own, a joyful and invigorating mix of blues-infused rock that is reminiscent of Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore, without ever sounding derivative or falling into cliches. As a songwriter, Wilson is a fine storyteller and gifted wordsmith, crafting solid songs that compliment his guitar style without intruding. An enormous and impressive debut, Brad Wilson, the album, does an admirable job introducing Brad Wilson, the artist, a little known, but nevertheless major talent, with a bright future ahead of him. |
CD ReviewsUnsung Guitar Hero J. Williams | Corpus Christi, Texas United States | 06/19/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "If this doesn't make you hit the road and get at ticket, then you are musically dead from the neck up. This man is huge, and why he is not more visible on the guitar screen is beyond me. I have his work with STONE, and when I saw this was out via Vintage Guitar magazine review, I thought to myself, "Self, you need to hurry and get this". He does it all, with style, flare, and downright guts. You feel the sweat from the speakers. Five of Five stars! Hey Brad, come to Corpus Christi, and Rock the House! Cowboy Craig of the Texas Coast" Full Throttle Solid Rockin' Blues Michael A. Cullen | Los Angeles, CA | 12/15/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "From the energetic opening track 'Black Coffee' all the way to the easy rocking 'Southern Cali Girl', this CD really showcases Brad's writing and performing skills. Influences from 50's rockabilly to contemporary straight ahead blues make this a very enjoyable CD. The blend of fine harmonies and blistering leads makes for a very balanced listening experience! This is a must have for anyone's library!"
