I like Hoeller more than Brahms.

"Furtwangler's Brahms' Double Concerto recordings are two. First is this, and second is Willi Boskovsky, Emanuel Brabec and Wiener Philharmoniker. Those recordings are live, too. In this recording, two soloists-Wolfgang Schneiderhan and Enrico Mainardi-are played so good. But it's sound quality is very 'awful', unlikely 1949 recording. Solo violin's sounds very noisy and too much sharp. But orchestra's sounds so dull. I recommend other recording-1952 live recording issued by EMI-preferably. In this CD, I like Karl Hoeller's Cello Concerto more than Brahms. Hoeller was veiled German composer but his works are very individual and expressive. He composed many works in late-romantic style. In this concerto-it's a live recording of world premiere performance-, soloist Ludwig Hoelscher and Furtwangler are performed very expressive. Particularly, Hoelscher's virtuosic playing was so good. Recording condition is so good, but so loud in orchestral tutti section. I think it brings about Urania's irresponsible restoration process. Certainly, there is no comparison between Urania and Orfeo (or Testaments)."
