A great German Requiem in dicey sound

"I gave a longer review of this excellent 1976 performance elsewhere on Amazon--that was for the mid-price EMI issue. This is the same recording in budget issue, and I have to say that the sound needs remastering badly. The soloists and choir sound edgy at peak moments, and although the Berlin Phil. sounds glorious, the midrange is lacking, with prominent bas and trebel. Oh well, it's not crippling, and the performance is so gripping that I can forgive the sound."

"This is a beautiful recording; however, the orchestra tends to overpower the chorus."
Brahms masterpiece

"Excellent, inspiring sound for what some consider Brahms greatest work. One problem: attempts to make a backup copy resulted in static on final track in copy--not present on original."
