"This is old-school DJ Shadow taking on a long DJ set. The flavor of Cut-Chemist is in there too. The mixing is flawless and the production is top-notch. I don't know why this was never released in the States, but if you can find it, GET IT!"
Go ahead, freeze my brain

"Fourty fives are nortoriously hard to work with for DJs. You don't have as much room on the record to minipulate it, and 7"s slip and slide like a goldfish on a table. LPs usually don't.
So it is not hard to appreciate the mastery DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist display on Brainfreeze. Not only do they assemble a nutrtitious mix of old school, rare soul, they spin and scratch, creating all kinds of jump cuts, witty repeats, and new breaks out of old music.
Brainfreeze also has a lot of old soundbytes. This gives the overall feel of the record the quality of a rainy 70s Saturady afternoon, filled with Karate movies on the local station, energy crisis adds, funk on the AM radio, and of course, slurpies.
Both Shadow and Chemist are old enough to recall a world without cable tv, the internet, twitter or cell phones, where, basically, your entertainment was your town, your TV, and your turntable. Bored? Hang out at 711. Remember, everything was local.
Brainfreeze gives me this feeling, like an old time soul show on the metro AM station. It also teaches a lot about funk you would never hear again if not for this dynamic duo.
Highly reccomended."
