"Zony Mash is a mix between Medeski, Martin, Wood, and John Zorn's "Naked City" style, not surprising being that frontman Wayne Horvitz was in "Naked City". Their style is rocking-funk/smooth grooves and great composition. This is not your typical 4 man band that plays standard funk, this is a bit on the edge of avant-garde, but not quite reaching that realm. If you haven't heard them, you need to, NOW. IMO, they take a backseat to nobody. Both the newest album and the first album are equal in quality, and I say don't hold back, buy both."

"Zony Mash successfully walks the line between serious, avant-tinged jazz and MMW style jam music. Honestly, I don't get into the latter, but I really love this album."
