Mind blower

"i first heard this album a couple of years ago in a tiny, dark, attic jazz bar in tokyo, a place with speakers the size of refrigerators, over three thousand records on the walls (not counting CDs), but barely enough floor space for a six-seater bar and four small tables. very little conversation while this was playing. unforgettable."
A beautiful and melodious introduction to a bass playing mas

"When bassist Brian Bromberg was given a 300-year-old Matteo Guersam Italian bass by his father his destiny as a world class musician was fully realized. WOOD showcases Bromberg's well-rounded repertoire. We hear everything from "Come Together" (composed by Paul McCartney and John Lennon) to "Speak Low" (composed by Kurt Weil) to "Goodbye" (a beautiful tune composed by Brian Bomberg for his father, complete with a gorgeous piano introduction). The pieces are all so alive and full of vibrance. What's more, you never hear them the same way twice. There is so much texture and depth in the arrangements. I guarantee you are going to press the "repeat" button on your CD player for this album."
Ain't enough stars in five to rate this cd

"I am an amateur bass player- I've played in classical, folk, rock, jazz, blues, and swing bands. I've heard Eugene Wright play live with Dave Brubeck. I've heard a lotta fine bassists over the past years- and I've never heard anything like Bromberg's playing on this CD. He is a master of intonation, inflection, rhythm and timing, and selection of tunes to play. I shared this music with a trumpeter in the band I currently play with, and he said it made him wish he played bass instead of trumpet. It makes me want to practice- and listen more to Bromberg play!"
