The Hills Are Alive (Canal Records) is the highly anticipated debut release from the Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata. The group was given unprecedented approval and permission from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization to reinterpret the songs from the iconic R&H musical The Sound of Music, which they have done on this richly textured album with bold genre-defying new arrangements and adaptations. Arranged and produced by Peter Kiesewalter, Grammy nominated creator of the East Village Opera Company, and mixed by three time Grammy winning engineer Neil Dorfsman (Dire Straits, Sting, Paul McCartney), the album reimagines the songs best known from the 1965 Oscar winning film in a variety of American genres. Strains of Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, Be Bop, Gospel, and Country intertwine in a musical highwire act that deftly maintains the balance between respectful tradition and dramatic innovation.
