"Music is all about connecting," says Brooks. And connect he does in this unique five-song project. My Empty House - Songs for Victims of Crime - is an original concept that draws on Brooks' personal experience in attempting to cope with the loss of his younger brother who was murdered 14 years ago in Smyrna, TN. His killers have never been brought to trial. For Brooks, this music project is a bold attempt to communicate the emotional turmoil that a survivor feels concerning the loss of a loved one and the never-ending search for justice. Brooks? warm voice and smart lyrics soar lightly above our heads and dig down into our depths and speak to us at several levels. The songs in My Empty House tell us stories and expose emotions that too often remain hidden in the troubled soul. At times subtle and at time direct, these songs live to connect with victims and speak to the waves they ride, while letting them know that there are others out there who have suffered and have survived. Also, the songs crack open a door so that the rarely encountered signal from the victim?s hazy light can beam upon one who has never before considered the unseen and silent victim. Brooks sees victims of violent crime as "America's forgotten sector of society." In his opinion, society is intensely focused on criminals and the nature of their crimes, and rarely gives genuine attention to the victims and their surviving family members. Besides raising donations for charities, My Empty House is also being made available to organizations that support victims of crime to be used as a possible revenue source for their programs.
