Synopsis

Album Description
Welcome to the Playlist series. We've fished through hundreds of tracks to cherry pick the perfect playlists. Not just the hits, but...the life-changing songs. The out-of-print tracks. The fan favorites everyone loves. The songs that make the artists who they are. You'll no doubt enjoy the sound of the beautifully remastered songs on this CD, unlike the compromised sound of an MP3 file. You might also like the fact that the packages are environmentally-friendly (no plastic, 100% recycled paper). But we think the thing you'll appreciate most about this Playlist is that even though you didn't make it, you might wish you did. This package has been created with the environment in mind. All of the paperboard is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. Of course, we would prefer that you not throw this package or CD away. We would prefer that you keep it in your collection to enjoy for many years to come! Full liner notes, photos, and more included as a PDF file on this CD. Enjoy!

CD Reviews

Very disappointing compilation
Scott G. | California | 06/02/2010
(1 out of 5 stars)

"With many other artists in Sony/BMG's 'Playlist: The Very Best Of' series, they've included single mixes that had previously never been released on CD before. So I was hoping they would do the same for Bruce Hornsby & the Range, like for the single mixes of 'Every Little Kiss' and 'Look Out Any Window': the single mixes were not only the versions played on the radio but also used for the music videos (and obviously included on the 45s) - so it's a shame we music fans still can't buy - on this CD or ANY CD - the famous versions we heard on the radio, watched/heard on MTV or bought on 45. These 2 hits in particular weren't even included on this 'Playlist' CD in ANY version. Also, 'Mandolin Rain' had a single mix different than the album - this song is on the 'Playlist' CD but is an alternate version that includes Ricky Skaggs. Sony/BMG had a great opportunity to finally get the single versions on a Hornsby compilation [Sony/BMG didn't put the hit versions on his last compilation either - 'Greatest Radio Hits'!], and once again Sony/BMG did a disappointing job. If any Sony/BMG employee (or a fan/person who may be working on the next Bruce Hornsby compilation CD 5 or 10 years from now) reads this, please include the famous single mixes of 'Every Little Kiss', 'Mandolin Rain' and 'Look Out Any Window' on the next Bruce Hornsby CD. Also, 'Across The River' (a top 20 hit) and 'Walk in the Sun' (a top 50 hit) were left off of 'Playlist'. On the plus side, it's nice to have a version of Bruce's 'End of the Innocence', which he co-wrote with Don Henley (who had the hit with the song), so it's nice to hear Bruce's interpretation, in a live setting no less. I realize these 'Playlist' compilations were meant to include key album cuts, but it seems like this compilation could have been a little more hit-oriented (it's not like Bruce had dozens of hits that couldn't all fit on this CD) and I would have given it five stars if they just had included the greatly remixed single versions of his hits."
