"It's a happy moment in Keilberth's discography, after a superb Ring (Bayreuth,1955-Testament)another very welcome publication. This Bruckner 8th (live 1966) deserves to be in the highest zone of the list. A very well conducted and performed concert, with a monumental and well paced first movement, a brilliant Scherzo, a flowing cantabile Adagio ("Nicht schleppend",not dragging,as indicated by the composer) and a massive Finale. The chosen edition is Hass,my favorite, with the deeply felt strings-passage near the end of the Adagio, not present in Novak's edition, here also well realized. The Kölner Rundfunks Sinfonie Orchester responds with fire ad precision,Keilberth obtains a very well balanced and unstrained sound. Compare this 8th with the much overrated, roughly played and recorded Jochum/Dresden'76-emi!"
