Jochum on Top of his Form...

"This disc has one of the finest opening movements of any performance of any piece ever played by any orchestra. Such hushed intensity with wonderful over the top brass work. Yet the refinement and delicacy of playing is something one does not hear too often anymore. Added to this is the ...listen to the way Jochum has of shaping and contouring things without going overboard and you know you are in for a real treat. Added to this bonus is the way he handles Symphony Eight and the conluding fanfares and you know something special is going on.I would not hesitate to add just how high a level this orchestra is playing at...it is incredible yet we never hear tell of these groups until something like a record like this dismisses the notion of 2cd tier European groups playing bad....Well worth purchasing if you are serious about Bruckner."
