One band that will never let you down

"Buckcherry is known to be one of the last, true, current rock acts. If you are tired of all the gimmicky here and gone bands and just want some straight out great rock, Buckcherry is for you. The latest album "All Night Long" is no different. Its another that you can listen to all the way through. Not a bad song on it. Also, if you are already a fan, and haven't seen these guys live, you are really missing out. I've seen them several times opening for bigger name bands. There are always people around me who came to see the headliner and are saying, "Who are these guys? These guys rock and that has got to be one of the best frontmen I have ever seen!" I don't know how many albums Buckcherry has to put out before people realize they are one of the few true great rock bands out there, but "All Night Long" is another excellent album that should introduce more people to this fantastic band.

Quick Heads up on Limited Edition version

"Hey people, according to Amazon the limited edition version of this album goes out on Aug. 10th. However it is for sale & available now at Best Buy but with 1 big difference in Amazon's favor. The Best Buy cd that I purchased yesterday does NOT have the acoustic version of "Sorry" on it. The CD ends 1 song earlier and the acoustic "Sorry" is left off for whatever reason. So anyone debating might as well hold out a few more days and get it thru Amazon. Both stores have it for the same price of $9.99 for the CD with the extra acoustic songs on it. Haven't listened to the actual album yet so no review as of now but I figured I'd share that little tidbit for those people out there, who like me, care about such things...Take care..."

Rock And Roll

"Buckcherry's 5th studio album doesn't really disappoint at all, your basic bluesy hard rock in the tradition of rock and roll that was made to have fun with, a few issues thrown in for good measure, and some minor growth but kept in tune with more of the same.

I always compare them to a throwback band of the 80's, a nice blend of AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Guns 'N Roses. Like the sunset strip without the hair and spandex. The thing that sets them apart is that they don't come off as a novelty act like so many bands of today try to do, they are not trying to make "hair band" music, with the tried and true anthems that you've heard for years. They never really made an impact like GNR did, but their sound is not that far removed, they can be sleazy, smart, soft as a kitten, or even jam and change tempos, they like to include solo's also which is part of the throwback experience also. They make catchy hard rock, I don't know what else you would want really in a hard rock band. They tend lately to be a more toward the mainstream with their sound, although that really doesn't carry much weight given they tend to have songs that contain multiple profanities even in their singles, this one however is noticeably lite on the explicit lyrics, a few sprinkled in, but for the most part showing a band that has matured, yet not lost their edge and all the while knowing the mission is to rock first and foremost.

The lead single is "All Night Long" and it's just a party type anthem, and then another one in ..."It's A Party" which is just them being who they are, a band intent on showing everyone a good time.

"These Things" which is about the nature of relationships and such is a nice song also, a more subdued song that is okay to a point. "Oh My Lord" which I believe is about summer and seeing the ladies in their summer attire...or lack of attire. It's kinda subtle though, and a nice song also that rocks pretty good.

My 3 fav song after a few listens are "Never Say Never", "Recovery", and "Dead"; the album closer. All three are spirited rockers with some postitive messages, some anger, some great rock as far as I'm concerned. I particularly like/love "Dead" which is just a great rocker that has a nice jam included and rolls along at about 5 minutes. To me it's right up there with one of the best songs they've done. The other two are no slouches either.

"I Want You" is okay song also, kinda drags a bit, but picks up with a nice feel to it once it get's going.

Not a big fan of "Liberty" right now, it's kinda groove oriented and not really one of those songs I would like, a true filler track perhaps. "Bliss" which is an okay song but sometimes the lyrics..even though I know it's only rock and roll...the lyrics tend to be kinda predictable and sappy at best. Perhaps I am contradicting myself or being hypocritical in this scrutiny also, I'm generally not a big fan of sappy ballads, some can work, but most often they fall flat, maybe because I am not into the whole relationship thing, and can't relate at all to it. Song title like "All Night Long" and "It's A Party" pretty much show also it's not deep meaning stuff, but you have to admit it get's right to the point.

"Our World" has some nice lyrics about the environment and some issues, I guess they reworked the song soon after and there is another version which will probably be on a future release, the one here works well for me though, not a particulary amazing song, but it's a catchy number that chugs along at a nice pace. Not like it's not been done before for a rock band to be socially or environmentally conscious, but from Buckcherry it's not that often, sometimes you do have to 'Check Your Head' even when having a great time partying.

Overall I would give it 4 stars, to me it rates somewhere in between "15" and "Black Butterfly" perhaps as on my list of fav albums by the band right now. Time will tell how well the rest of the songs I think are average fair as favs, but for now I am content with this release. I don't expect the world to change and the rules to change in rock after hearing about a dozen Buckcherry songs, so in that regard it's just your typical hard rock that works well and carries on the tradition of the great sound of Buckcherry.

A True Classic Rock Album

"Buckcherry's most mature and focused album to date, All Night Long is one of the band's best albums. I actually really enjoyed Black Butterfly (especially the superb "Rescue Me" and "Fallout"), but this is a superior album. It might take a couple playthroughs to sink in fully, but you can tell they polished the hell out of each of these tracks in the studio until they were perfect.

The guitar tones are fantastic - Keith Nelson has really stepped up on this album. They went with very few overdubs and simply let the dual rhythms fill the space beautifully. These guys are getting true AC/DC tones off vintage equipment, and Nelson and Stevie D. really might be the best rhythm duo since Slash and Izzy.

Josh Todd is still a mixed bag technically, but the vocals here are tighter than on Black Butterfly and very strong overall. He's also highly toned down the swearing, which is a nice change of pace. The bass and drumming remain as strong and restrained as ever.

The songwriting, too, has also really matured. The well-structured, evenly layered core Buckcherry sound is still here, except with a new wonderful diversity in style and composition. It's no longer just rocker-rocker-ballad-ballad-rocker. There are also far fewer soft ballads than the last album, for those of you who weren't fans of Butterfly.

In line with this stylistic change of pace, you must buy the deluxe version, as the acoustic set is fantastic. I'd say about four of the six are really excellent songs, and the other two are still very good. All feature beautiful acoustic work.

Also of note, the solos are fantastic and really rip. Also, all of them are very original this time (unlike in the previous album). The riffs are extremely tight, and I can't overstate how perfectly structured most of these pieces are; Buckcherry has really perfected its art.

"Recovery" is great, punchy hard rock; "Liberty" has sweet slide work and cool classic rock references. "Our World" is the sort of the song I'd normally hate - preachy, pointless message rock. I was pleasantly surprised by how badass it turned out. With sick riffs and a kicking wah solo, it's an entirely awesome song. "Bliss" is a relaxed psychedelic and a beautiful song. It has the feel of a really solid 90's tune, and deserves to have the volume cranked.

"Dead" deserves a special mention. Easily the best song on the album, it might be the best Buckcherry song to date. It's equal parts "My Generation" and "Freebird." The longest track on the album and an instant classic, it rocks like almighty hell.

All in all, a very strong showing from Buckcherry, and definitely one of the frontrunners for album of the year. An elegant, true album. Bravo.

(Oh, and to the guys above, you absolutely DO want to play this for your girlfriend. If you want to get laid!)

These guys never cease to amaze me!!

"All Night Long is Buckcherry's fifth full-length album in 11 years. Buckcherry is without a doubt my favorite band over that period in time, these guys have always put out quality records, and they always inject serious rock 'n' roll attitiude into each offering.

Whenever I hear Buckcherry is releasing a new record, i'm always afraid that this will be the one where they fall to earth, and we really discover they're just another run-of-the-mill modern rock band. However, All Night Long, is just not that record. This album is chalked full of party-rock anthems, and serious every bad boy has his soft side ballads. I have listened to this album about 10 times through now, and have to admit, it grows on me more and more with each listen. My favorite tracks from All Night Long are; Never Say Never, Recovery, All Night Long, It's A Party, Oh My Lord, I Want You and Liberty. I guess you can see that almost every song is awesome, the other four are decent as well, these just tickled my fancy just a wee bit more.

On the level, All Night Long is probably my 3rd favorite Buckcherry album. It rates somewhere behind 15 and Time Bomb, but just a little higher than Black Butterfly and their S/T album. If there is one thing you can always count on, it's that Buckcherry will release a solid record. I mean, these guys have released 5 records now, and not one of them is anywhere near a piss-poor excuse for an album. I highly suggest you go buy this album and support these guys, they are truly the real deal for a rock 'n' roll revival."
