CD Reviews

Music for people with short attention spans
R. Apicella | New York, NY | 07/19/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A friend of mine once told me that the great thing about the Misfits was by the time you realized you didn't like a song, it was over and then came a song you probably would like. This album is kind of like that in that if you don't dig what Buckethead is playing at any given point, just wait 30 seconds and he'll be playing something entirely different. Although, I doubt you'll have too many moments like that.

The single best word to describe this album is schizophrenic. It's almost as if Bucket sat down, started fiddling around with a riff but didn't want to get bored with it so he took the song in a completely different direction. And he repeated this approach for every song on the album. The result is awesome. The album is all over the place but at the same time, it feels like a natural progression (I don't know how he did that). There are stand out songs on here but I have to just throw this on from beginning to end everytime I listen to it becuase it is just that kind of album.

On a side note, I feel that right now Buckethead is putting out the best music of his career. Cuckoo Clocks, Population Override, this, Kaleidoscalp, and Elephant Man's Alarm Clock (I could easily include Enter the Chicken but I want to focus on his instrumental stuff)...those albums have some of the best, most engaging riffs I've ever heard. Rather than playing off themes (robots, monsters, theme parks, monsters in themeparks, robots fighting monsters, etc) like he did with his earlier work, now he is letting his guitar set the theme. It is absolutely incredible. His older stuff made me a fan of his abilties, this stuff changing the way I think about music. Enjoy."
AN EPIC~!
