A Swinger's Paradise

"This recording is, perhaps, the finest modern day version of a wonderfully swinging four piece rhythm section as introduced by Count Basie back in the nineteen thirties. It's Basie as played by John Bunch with Jay Leonhart doing Walter Page, Mickey Roker's Jo Jones timekeeping and Buckey Pizzarelli strumming the acoustic rhythm guitar Freddie Greene style. These guys sound absolutely beautiful together. To top it off, Warren Vache fills the role of Harry Edison playing a harmon muted trumpet on all the numbers. You're in for a real treat even if you've never heard Basie's small group projects. This is really a fantastic recording in every way and should not be missed by fanciers of the genre. Arbors releases impressive sessions every year without fail and this is, without a doubt, one of the absolute best."

"Arbor Records presents "5 FOR FREDDIE" --- Count Basie's "All-American Rhythm Section" brought to life with elegance, taste and swing in a recording Bucky Pizzarelli considers to be one of his finest.
John Paul 'Bucky' Pizzarelli (born January 9, 1926 (1926-01-09) (age 81)) is an American classical jazz guitarist and banjoist, perhaps most notable for his work with jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli, his son. John has also worked for NBC as a staffman for Dick Cavett (1951) and also ABC with Bobby Rosengarden in (1952). The list of musicians Bucky has collaborated with over his career is considerable, including Les Paul, Stephane Grappelli, and Benny Goodman. Bucky acknowledges Django Reinhardt, Freddie Green, and George Van Eps for their influences on his style and mode of play --- (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

"Bucky does a great job of displaying the lost art of rhythm guitar. I wish the guitar was a little more prominent in the mix, but it's a great tribute to Freddie Green and his wonderful style of guitar. Great tune selection, too."
