Synopsis
Album Description "Howlin' At The Moon", the latest studio disc from the BUDDAHEADS, featuring premier asian blues/rock guitarist- vocalist, Alan Mirikitani a.k.a B.B. Chung King, is an outstanding collection of pure, classy, diverse, awesome blues/rock heavy guitar power trio joy. "Joyful Noise" as we call it at GROOVEYARD RECORDS, a new label dedicated to oustanding TOTAL GUITAR. "Howlin' At The Moon" features 16 trax (78 minutes) of awesome top-shelf blues rock riffage from this amazing, gifted guitarist, that was recorded through the years. The music ranges from full-out killer blues/rock riff rippers, to classic mid-tempo in the back pocket blues burners, to cycodelic trippy hendrixy jams ("dance maria" is Alan's musical tribute to Jimi), to deep beautiful dynamic bluesy minor ballads and everything in-between. There is something here for everybody. And as an added bonus, the "Howlin' At The Moon" disc features "special guest" blues/rock axeslinger supreme & good musical brother Philip Sayce jamming hard on his strat with Alan Mirikitani & the BUDDAHEADS on the title track. A killer BUDDAHEADS jam worthy of the price of admission alone. Alan Mirikitani is a "man on a blues-rock mission" and he sets the record straight on the "Howlin' At The Moon" disc. Not only is he an awesome guitarist and soulful, clean, melodic vocalist, what sets him apart from the rest is his strong ability to write incredible outstanding songs with lyrics that really mean something. Raw and powerful, yet melodically rich, the songs (and we mean "songs") on "Howlin' At The Moon" are classy, diverse, mature and full of depth complete with classic powerful heavy guitar riffage. This is REAL music for REAL people. The BUDDAHEADS are blues/rock at it's best. "Howlin' At The Moon" is an incredible musical document on this incredibly gifted guitarist and band. Alan Mirikitani has been playing his axe since he was 4 years young(!!!) and he first hit the musical scene with the BUDDAHEADS back in 1994 with the major label (RCA RECORDS) debut, "Blues Had A Baby...", an awesome display of outstanding dynamic blues/rock riffage. Several other killer Buddaheads discs followed, including a record deal in Japan. Even though you may not have heard of him and you should have, Alan Mirikitani has been keeping busy through the years writing great outstanding music and also found success with film and t.v. soundtrack work. He also started up his own recording studio called DAWGHOUSE, where all of the trax for "Howlin' At The Moon" were recorded (...have you ever been to electric dawgland?!!!). Alan Mirikitani deserves all the credit he can get for his vast musical efforts. The BUDDAHEADS: "Howlin' At The Moon" disc is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to fans of ROBIN TROWER, JIMI HENDRIX, Z.Z. TOP, S.R.V., JOHNNY WINTER, RORY GALLAGHER, CLAPTON, DOYLE BRAMHALL,WARREN HAYNES and just about any other killer blues/rock axeslingers you have ever heard. The BUDDAHEADS are the "REAL" deal and Alan Mirikitani is definitely up there with the best of them. He is a powerful blues/rock force to be reckoned with and he "shines" on the "Howlin'At The Moon" disc. It's time to get "REAL" and take an awesome 78 minute "musical ride" with Alan Mirikitani and the fabulous BUDDAHEADS. CD ReviewsThey call themselves the buddaheads because they can... aintagottanoweeda | new york usa | 03/10/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "i will tell you why alan "b.b. chun king" mirikitani calls his band the buddaheads...because he can. he is also the best guitarist that you never heard of, on the planet. he is the best talent i've stumbled upon accidentally ever. he is and should be considered a guitar god. not only does this guy know his way around a strat, but he knows his way around a well written song too. the "howlin' at the moon" cd is the best cd i've bought in ten years. this is the best electric blues cd i know of. the only cd i remember playing as much as this is zakk wylde's "book of shadows",because i ussually listen to my blues on the heavier side. the buddaheads sound is hendrix inspired, but theres also a robert cray with a touch of eric clapton thing goin' on. exspecially in alan's vocals, which are silky smooth and his lyrics can pull you right into the song with him. every track on this disc is excellent and you will want to play it all the way, not skip through. come to find out this cd is a compilation of tracks taken from the buddaheads three independant releases. if i had to pick my favorate tracks i would have to say "train train",which is an original and not a blackfoot cover, and "company graveyard". and only because they are a little heavier than the rest of the tracks. this is the type of guitar heavy cd you can throw on and you wont hear your ol' lady yell turn that crap down befor the first song is even over. my ol lady wanted to know who i was listening to instead. that is because alans guitar playing is a mixture of finess and precision,as well as strength and power.his solo's are some of the tastiest guitar i have ever heard. you will find no needless shredding on this disc, nothing but class. one killer highlight, is the fist track "long way down" starts out and fades out at the end sounding like the song is being played on a scratched up vinyl record. oh my god, the first time i heard it i almost fell out of my kings chair. i thought i was having a flashback. hell, i even spilled the bong. it caught me that off gaurd. no true guitar head should be without this cd. exspecially if electric blues is your thing.you also get your moneys worth-the disc is 78 minutes of "silky smooth" guitar rock. i will not give a 5 star rating to a cd unless i like to listen to every track all the way through.this cd falls into that catigory, and i play it over and over. there is nothing else i can recomend more- candy for the ears." Saweeet... Christopher A. Chausse | Carson City, Nevada USA | 08/20/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you like Walter Trout, Kenny Wayne or SRV (or a list of others but you get the idea) then you'll dig this CD. These guys do a nice combination of rock / blues / booige. Very simple jams but they have fun and it comes through in thier music. I don't know how I missed these guys, being a blues rock fan for about the last 6 years or so. And one other little tidbit, for those of you that have killer sytems in your vehicles (like this 43 year old youngster) this is a great recording and sound spectacular with a nice sub." STELLAR BLUES/ROCK ALBUM... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED The Electroacoustic Metallurgist | USA | 01/12/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is an exceptionally solid guitar driven Blues/Rock album, with not a bad song in the bunch. As the album cover alludes to this is GUITAR Blues/Rock. If your looking for Keb' Mo' style blues you best take your candy a** elsewhere, this album rocks! This album does deserve a five star rating, and is certainly worth your fifteen bucks."
