Classic New Orleans ensemble jazz.

"Superb performances from Bunk Johnson and his band recorded by William Russell in 1944. Particularly noteworthy for the exhilerating drumming of Baby Dodds, who drives the band along beautifully on such uptempo tracks as "Yes Yes in your Eyes". Bunk Johnson plays a good firm lead with fine melodic variations, sometimes playing obligato accompaniments to George Lewis, who is also in fine form. Jim Robinson provides dependably robust tailgate trombone support. This is classic ensemble jazz; there are few solos, but the texture of the band changes from chorus to chorus, and with times of up to four minutes per track, the band has a chance to stretch out. This is a recording that no lovers of New Orleans jazz should miss."
Great!
