"What else can you say about a CD that has "All the Whores" and "Nearer My God to Thee" on the same recording?
As one of the seminal jazz bands of the forties (and earlier) Bunk's Brass Band has few equals. This is just some of the best good ol' Dixieland jazz recordings you will find anywhere. And, being the proud owner of a number of these influential, early jazz works, I like this one more than the rest because of the high quality of the recording. Sure, there's some hiss and pop here and there, but overall, the band's sound really comes through and the noise from the recordings is not distracting at all. This CD also features a wide selection of early jazz standards, earthy folk songs, and gospel favorites, like St. Louis Blues, Swanee River, the aforementioned Nearer My God to Thee, plus of course, When the Saints Go Marching In. There's even a rendition of Happy Birthday, which I'm pretty sure is the only recording of that song I own, or have ever owned. This is just good fun and great listening and would be a nice addition to any jazz music collection, or a classic jazz addition to any other popular music collection."
