"Burmese come here to level your foundations with their cryptic brand of noise sludge. Whitehouse and Earth are good starting points here, but its more violent than Earth and more drving than Whitehouse. No, Converge this is not, and the below reveiwer obviously has no frame of reference for this kind of music. If completely uncompromising music that leaves you feeling emotionally drained and your ears in need of healing is your thing, look no further."

"He's right - Converge is way off. Don't get me wrong, I love Converge but quite frankly, they are pussies compared to this band of freaks. Whitehouse is a good starting point, some early Swans possibly. Men is just toooooo good. Ultra downtuned bass guitars, drums that hit harder than Dale Crover (although to be fair, there are two of them), brain-melting scree and painful feedback. This is the most evil sounding isht i've heard in ages. Headmaster is truly a great sludge track, pummeling and utterly brutal with a devestating death growl hidden beneath the noise, and Rapewar is ... well, Rapewar is. Seriously, if you dig the heaviest of heavy sludge, industrial and/or any of the bands mentioned above then this is completely essential.

NOTE TO AMAZON: Why oh why oh why are you not stocking 'A Mere Shadow And Reminiscence Of Humanity' (also by Burmese)? It's very possibly even better than 'Men'! Please get your act together and rectify this problem."

Khanate meets Whitehouse meets Fudge Tunnel

"Ok, so if you're reading this, you're either



A. Curious about the album because it looks interesting and you don't know what it sounds like



or B. In complete understanding that this music can tear through brain cells faster than hydrochloric acid.



Either way, this is an album you should hear. But not for too long, though, because you start to actually bleed from the ears after too much.



Just kidding.



Anyway, this is really a combination of the morals presented by Whitehouse (the song titles pretty much make the argument), the sludge of doom masters Khanate, and the sheer unlistenability of Merzbow. But, these are all good things to some people. Such as me. Oh, and it's faster than crap sometimes.



This album relies totally on your limits of how much you can take in one sitting. The weak hearted shouldn't even be reading this. You can come up with dozens of "hardcore" metal bands. They can't top this. Not Converge, not Khanate, not Sunn O))), not even Swans. This is the all killer, no filler album of your nightmares.



Listen with caution. Don't play this at parties, dates, or practically any other social gathering of any kind. This is the kind of music that shouldn't really exist because only demented people listen to it. However, the very same demented people are the ones with the tolerance, the open minds, and the ear stamina required to listen to such music. There aren't enough people like that living right now.



Revive noise in rock music. Revive disgust in metal music. Bring out all the No Wave albums (James Chance & the Contortions, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks), the Japanoise albums (Masonna, Merzbow), the true black metal (Mayhem, Emperor, 1349, Venom), the grindcore (Napalm Death, The Locust, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Nasum), the insane industrial albums (Einsturzende Neubauten, Swans, late Throbbing Gristle). It's time to show the world that the radio is no longer the Holy Grail for music. We have to act now.



Burmese, lead the way.
