CD Reviews

No Neil Larsen, but still gives a great Buzz!
Benjamin J. Neiman | Phila., Pa. United States | 11/18/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Larsen/Feiten, Full Moon, and Neil Larsen's solo albums are amongst my favorites in my huge collection, always have been. I could not contain my excitement when this cd was released. Buzz Feiten is one of the greatest, most underrated guitarists EVER, his rhythm guitar is second to none, he solos as well as any of the greats, and he has a great sound! The other players are all seasoned pros, saxist Brandon Fields has been a smoothe jazz icon for years, and Freddie Beckmeir (I think?) was in the original awesome version of Full Moon, which, is one of the greatest, most melodic fusion albums of all time! This time out, Buzz and the boys go for more of a groove, jam kind of vibe, and very successfully. "Hey Dinwiddie (for orig. Full Moon sax god Brother Gene Dinwiddie) starts out the cd with a swinging, relentless, rhythm guitar funk workout by the amazing Buzz, and this is a good exzmple of the direction of this whole cd. The addition of keyboardist Neil Larsen would have made this a 5 star cd, and a classic for all time, I'm sure. Neil's sense of composition and melody is unmatched, and he has written some of the best tunes in jazz/fusion (Midnight Pass, Jungle Fever, Red Desert). As it is, it is a great cd, certainly worth buying, and will reward you with many great years of pleasure, which it has already done for me. Any Buzz is good Buzz! BTW, Neil Larsen has a new cd called "Orbit" (feat. Robben Ford), and he revisits some of his best tunes from Jungle Fever and it is fantastic!! Search it out, you won't be sorry."
