I have always loved this album...have it on vinyl so you know how far back I go..! The whole album seems to flow real well...all of it somewhat evocative of Neil Young's "Harvest". I seem to have loved a whole different album all these years than the one described by the "official" review here on SwapaCD...some of the songs I like the most are "Full Circle, "Sweet Mary", "For Free" and "Laughing". I much prefer Neil Young's version of "Cowgirl in the Sand" and could've lived without "Born to Rock 'N' Roll" completely. At any rate, good ol' mellow hippy music. Love it!

"Luckily for me, when the (original lineup) Byrds reunion album came out in early 1973, the first local FM rock/top 40 hybird station was getting established. It played almost every single rock or pop 45 released at the time, so the playlist was gigantic. (It was also wonderful to be exposed to stuff that wasn't deemed commercial enough, but sounded great to my ears. I bought more records in 1973 than any year ever.) The singles "Full Circle" and "Cowgirl in the Sand" got played at least a couple of times a day, so I got the chance to appreciate them for the laid-back, country-folk-rock songs they were. I bought the album before I bothered to read the first of many reviews savaging it as one of the worst albums of the year. But, 30 years later, "Byrds" is still one of the albums I love to listen to on a warm, lazy summer day. No ground-breaking stuff here--but I still find myself preferring "Byrds" to many of the pretentious stuff that the critics raved about back then."

Not really the Byrds

"Short and sweet, this album just never worked for my ears. I fell in love with The Byrds with the first album and hung with them through the changes in line-up and styles (yeah, I even liked Byrdmaniax) but this one just fell flat. Only a couple of
tunes even sound Byrd-like and the rest just sort of lay there and make you wonder what was going on in the groups head when they listened to the playbacks. If you're a Byrd fan then this
effort will more than likely disappoint you in a big way. If you
are just getting into the group, this album will make you wonder
what all the hub-bub was about. Trust me: They were so much
better than this effort shows. Stick to the earlier stuff or the
greatest hits/best of/ esstiential packages."
