"This is the CD where the audacity of C.P.E.'s language can be experienced at its finest. Stops, starts, little dying falls, outbursts...Thanks to the great Baron Van Swieten who said "CPE, do your thing!" The guy was nearly as much of a genius as the composers he supported. And this performance, with its spooky vibratoless sound, brings out that which is unique and revolutionary in this music. It's not the only way to play it (I have fond memories of Collegium Aureum), but it's one great way. If you want to know what was really happening in music between 1750 and 1775, you need to know these pieces."

"This is C.P.E Bach at his finest. It's both haunting and soothing, relaxing but with dramatic outbursts, and completely original. I've heard C.P.E.'s music described as "manic-depressive"--this would certainly be it! The music lingers in my head for hours if not days."
