The great Schumann 2nd
adrian ivan | Medias, SB Romania | 06/30/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This Schumann 2nd is one of the greatest ones alongside with that of Sawallisch and Bernstein. Powerful music making from one of the greatest conductors of the most complex work composed by Schumann, "the profoundest of the german romantics"(Furtwangler).Listening to Celibidache is very exhausting,a real demanding effort. Is not an instant gain from the first listening. A free mind and repeated experiences will make you understand that music is a serious matter and it must be treated in a serious way.

Highly,highly recommended.

"I played this piece when I was a member of the Young Israeli Philharmonic, so I know it pretty much inside and out.

I was simply blown away by this recording.

Every bar is thought out, nothing is accidental. It is an original and deliberate. Unlike the other reviewer I didn't find it hard to listen to (other celibidaches recording do tend to be demanding on the listener). I was fascinated from beginning to end.

I also own Sinopoli's with Dresden which used to be my favorite and Bernstein's with Wiener which I like a lot but not as the others.

Highly recommended."
