"One of the bright spot in 70's country. These are the original hits and original recordings. I almost forgot how good they were. Really takes me back in time. I love this cd. For those of you who were not around in the 70's, you need to listen to this artist. Cal Smith can really show you how to put together a song, a performance and a story."
Great Throwback!

"I'd never heard anything by Cal Smith except for "Country Bumpkin", but I decided to order this.
It's unbelievably good! The guy probably would not rate as a great singer, but he has fabulous material and really evokes the era. There are a lot of great story songs like "Jason's Farm," and "Ghost of Jim Bob Wilson" in the vein of Tom T. Hall or Bobby Bare's "Lincoln Park Inn". And Cal sounds completely believable on "Drinking Champagne." Oh, and he's got one of the greatest kiss-off songs of all-time: "An Hour and a Six-Pack"--Instant classic."
