A fantastic re-issue

"Just when I thought I was going to have to rely on my used Fantasy albums (in that beautiful red translucent vinyl)from now on (they couldn't possibly know these were the two albums I most wanted to see paired in a re-issue!)- what do they do but read my mind and put out this splendid disc. It really is a dream come true to have two classic Tjader albums together like this. The music is that ultra sophisticated sound we have come to love with piano, vibes and a gorgeous sax among other treats. If you love 50's small group jazz you have to have this."
Great content, weak acoustics

"I'm very fond of Cal (not Carl) Tjader's music and own a half dozen albums of his. Although I really enjoyed the arrangments and the playing on this disc, it sounds as if the microphones were too far away from the musicians during the recording.
This is not uncommon with live recordings from this era, several Charlie Parker albums disappoint in this dimension as well. One could only wish for a time machine to go back and rerecord because the music was right and the bands were tight.
For anyone considering a purchase, listen to the samples before purchasing. Or order something more recent from Cal. He was one of the greats and we owe a lot to him for popularizing Latin music way ahead of his time!"
