"Like, TOTALLY!!
The recognizable & reputable Thump label went the opposite of their norm some 4 years back in compiling a "typical 80's music"-themed disc for fans of the "genre". In an already by-then FLOODED 80's comp. market, the resilient and often bold, daring label just the same decided to proceed with said venture and join the bandwagon. And, heck, for a first time outing, Thump showed they ain't no chump.
The result is a solid line-up of 80's new wave and pop, with the odd inclusion of other genre selections thrown in the mix. There's also a nice, rather steady combination of both highly popular, well-known tunes, along with the quite rare or hard-to-find choices. Dramarama's "Anything, Anything (I'll Give You), The Smiths' "Ask" and especially supergroup INXS' "Burn For You" are traceable to almost no other 'various artists' comp. It's a pleasure to see Thump go the extra effort and dig a bit deep to come up with said gems from the 80's.
Best thing about the tracks featured here is the excellent manner in which they smoothly segue into one another, adding momentum to the following song as the disc rolls on; a trait of Thump's which they've proven to specialize in many times over the years.
All in all, I genuinely offer the comp. a **** for all the above-stated. Would have garnered a 5 had ALL tracks been in their original full-length versions, but the unedited "White Lines", "Nowhere Girl" and once again, especially, "Burn For You" sort of make-up for this, though.
Thumbs up for Thump!"
