"Buyer beware! These are NOT the original Warner Bros./Dave Crawford-produced versions of her hit songs. In small print on the back of the CD package it reads, "The tracks featured have been re-recorded by the original artist." In short, if you want the original versions of "Young Hearts Run Free," "Run to Me," "Victim," et al., you'll have to look elsewhere. What a disappointment."

"These are re-recorded versions of her hits & not good ones at that. If you`re looking for the great 70`s R&B & disco sounds, this Cd isn`t it. The biggest disappointment was the wrong versions of the early Fame (Dave Crawford produced)hits. They are all 70`s Muscle Shoals classics."
REMAKES - BUT THE VOICE STILL SHINES

"Ok, first off I will acknowledge that these are definitely not the original recordings of the songs. Some of the production is very weak as many, if not most, of the tracks sound programmed. That being said, I will say that I was not entirely disappointed with this cd. Two things that are to this cd issue's credit is 1) Candi Staton, re-singing her songs still sounds GREAT. She is in fine voice. It kind of reminds me of a live performance, minus the audience participation in the background. You know how the instrumental production of a live performance almost never sounds like the original record, even though the singer usually (if they are a TRUE singer) sounds better live than in the studio. 2) The instrumental "re-creations," if you will, for the FAME recordings pretty much are true to the originals. Yes, you can hear differences because the instruments are not live but synthesized, however, I was not that offput by it. Some of the other tracks from the Warner material leave more to be desired - some just outright WRONG - i.e., too cheesy and overly programmed sounding. But since I purchased this cd for the much loved and totally out of print and unavailable anywhere FAME material, it was a bargain, especially at the discounted price. (Exception is the French cd compilation which showcases the original songs, but inferior sound quality). The Warner Bros. songs are available in their original form on her fantastic 2-lps-on-1 cd and her equally essential "Best of" compilation. If previous reviews cast any doubts on whether this particular cd is a worthy purchase, I think if you buy with an open mind you won't be too disappointed. Now, if only EMI-Capital/FAME would get their acts together and get a proper release issued..."
