"I believce that this is the album that really highlights Chris Barnes and Jack Owens/Rob Barret real talents. Owens has been one of my all time favorites and along with Barret, the guitar melodies and riffs are at the most brutal here. There are many many death metal/grindcore/noisecore bands around, but most sound all the same with the exception of varied levels of technical abilities. Few of these groups have their own unique sound and character...and few bring this to full conception like Cannibal Corpse. I think that this album puts it all together. The song writing, melodies, vocal approach, and production quality just seem to gel on this album! You can't tell me that these guitar players are anything less than brilliant on this recording, the complex layers, and absolute style is all their own.
I notice that the trend of bands in this genre as well as CC in the years to follow this alum tend to become more groove core oriented, as well as dumbing down the complex songwriting opting for something more digestable. I think a whole generation missed out on the more creative and complex sounds of earlier grindcore. Around 1995 most bands went either super technical or groove core, and I still miss the absolute insanity of this earlier style of music. I think that this was the last of the the original CC sound and the one I most appreciate. CC along with AC, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, and Regurgitate still remain my favorites. Peace"

"Its "cute" to see people that clearly do not like death metal reviewing this album. CC stands for all that is foul, and in the musical sense, it has everything death metal is. Brutal riffs with underlying guitar chugging, extreme lyrics that will appeal to any horror fan, and relentless drumming that could shatter the eardrums. While this may not be their best album (that would go to Vile imho) it has songs on it that will satisfy any headbangers needs. If cannibal corpse can continue to offend people then they have achieved the true goal of "death" metal."
