"Don Pullen was an under recognized genius at free jazz piano as good in my mind as Andrew Hill or McCoy Tyner or even Cecil Taylor. Sam Rivers, was and continues to be a free jazz saxophonist that has shaped the course of modern jazz. Together "Capricorn Rising" has a variety of Coltrane style free jazz exchanges but remains grounded in free jazz rather than free improv and isn't an avant classical "composition" or an aimless imrpov but a fresh blast of free jazz tonalities but still grounded with a certain structure. Although clearly Don Pullen and George Adams were known for pulling off many fine albums, to me in some ways "Capricorn Rising" is even better and I have yet to find an album Sam Rivers plays on that I dislike although some are better than others and this is a clear reccomendation."
