Carol Welsman even outdoes Peggy Lee on some great tunes

"This album is my introduction to Carol Welsman. It certainly will cause me to listen to and obtain some of her prior CDs. She does Peggy Lee songs but wisely does not try to emulate her. That does not prevent her from doing Peggy one better - for example - on "The Folks Who Live On The Hill", the best version of that song I've ever heard. Her voice and styling breathes a dreaminess and wistfulness into the emotion of that favorite tune, in a way that I think will be unmatchable. She also does a great job on "Angels On Your Pillow", a relatively unknown goodie.
Peggy still wins on "Fever", but that has never been a fav of mine. "Do I Love You?" is a fav, but my vote goes to Ms. Lee, however I think it is only due to the instrumentation/arrangement. Ms. Welsman's voice is clear, steady and superb.
Overall the music is as beautiful as the singer, and both are classy as well. Functionally the package is well put together. As a Jazz DJ on WTJU, Charlottesville, VA, I appreciate each track being clearly labeled, including time and composer, and nice descriptive material in the jacket without the artistic side taking over and sacrificing substance for form. Each track being below five minutes engenders air time.
The more I play this album, the better still I am getting to like it. Try it!
