"Carolyn and the Imperial Monkeys are at their best playing bluesy,Stonesy rock.Carolyn can also sing softly and beautifully--as on the spine-tingling last cut "Stay".The only negative is the mix.Seems like the producer didn't get his highs and lows and mids in order.The bass and drums sound real good but they are way out in front.Favorite cuts include "Last Living Stranger","Harmonicar"(a great song to hear in your ride),"Jim & Jack",and the afore mentioned "Stay".These youngsters have proven themselves with a schedule that includes about 175 out-of-town gigs a year and 34 states so far.HELLO RECORD COMPANIES!This humble scribe feels that "Play With Matches" and the recently re- released "Groove Milk" are better but this one is a must for any fan.Bass player Chris King is so deep in the pocket he's hangin'with the lint!Leesa Harrington-Squyres has been voted best drummer four years running by the Houston Press annual Music Awards.King has also won best bass four times with guitarist Eric Dane taking the guitar honors this year.Carolyn....well lets just say she's won all the local honors she could win.All this band needs is the proverbial break.Oh...don't want to forget guest pianist and keyboard player Ian McClaglan (formerly of the Small Faces,the Faces,and a member of Rod Stewarts' band in the 70's-circa "Maggie May","You Wear It Well",etc...McClaglan has also toured with the Stones as well as Ron Woods solo projects.Wood is an old Small Face and Rod Stewart band-mate. Hey!Run out and get this!Now!"

"I saw them near San Fransisco at the Shoreline Ampitheater several years back. They were great. The drummer rocked hard- she layed down the groove and generally played superbly- a real talent. The bass player looked like Dusty Hill of ZZTop and played as good as him. The guitar player, who looked like Keith Richards' younger brother, was very tastefull and played for the song. Yet another talent. Carolyn is like a combination of Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. Four genuinely talented youngsters. If you like the Stones, Joplin, Raitt, Black Crowes, amonst others, you'll enjoy this one."
