"If you like sad, but also romantic music, this is it. The soundtrack could be categorized together with Danny Elfman's Sommersby, although this score is more emotional.
Since many music fans do not have a certain dark melancholy inside, they discard this score as mediocre or even bad...
IT IS PERFECT! There is deep romance (not superficial, although at first this may sound so...), haunting drama (Troops in the Mist and Honor Inflamed), realistic action music that even reaches heartbreaking emotion (Rannoch Moor Suite) and an "end of evil" cue for Cunningham (Love and Death Suite)...!
This score was overlooked thanks to James Horner's Braveheart.
Rob Roy and Fargo are Burwell's best works, both emotional and dark, with a romantic twist in Rob Roy and with a comical twist in Fargo.
Keep listening to these scores and they will strike you as musical gems!"
Very Moving

"I must disagree with an earlier review which thought this CD was incomplete. The missing pieces he sights weren't written for this film, they were added to relatively insignificant scenes. This CD contains the sweeping, romantic score as well as the Gaelic traditional tune that were recorded for the film - a very rich and beautiful mix."
Truly Scotland!!

"Having visited Scotland a couple of years ago, I can slide this little CD in while driving and I feel like I am back there!! This is the type of music that I can listen to all day (and sometimes do) and never get tired of it!! It is majestic and moving, sometimes sad but oftimes a pick me up!"
An incredible score to an incredible film!!!!

"The soundtrack to Rob Roy is one that puts you in the film and makes you feel the fear that the characters experience. Carter Burwell's score has multiple moments where the listener feels he is Liam Neeson, running from the evil Tim Roth. The film is better than the other 1995 Scottish hero film - Braveheart. All the critics thought so, yet ironically Braveheart one the Best Picture Oscar and 4 other oscars while Rob Roy only got one nomination. The music to Braveheart is wonderful too, but Carter Burwell's score should have been nominated also."
