CD Reviews

Interesting and very intense industrial metal!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Cassandra Complex are a UK band who have been around since 1983, their earlier material resembling electronic gothic wave music with a dance edge but very influential for its time, inspiring bands such as Rosetta Stone(see FOUNDATION STONES review) and even Carter USM with their pulsating drum machine backbeats. This CD takes the basic concept further. Mix a mechanical but danceable drum beat, add both synthed and real bass, and throw on some extremely dirty and loud guitars, not to mention the rantings of vocalist Rodney Orpheus and you have C-Complex's most recent offering to date. 'Kneel to the Boss' is obviously a guitar-driven rock spoof of corporate mentailities, 'Mouth of Heaven' features a guest sample of Michelle Pfeiffer at the start and then chugs along at a pace enough to make even the most jaded gothic wave fan want to hit the dancefloor. Some interesting speech samples appear throughout featuring religious censorship zealots, a presidential candidate's speech, a terribly unfunny comedian(briefly) and even Robert de Niro on 'Come Out'. My personal favourite track is 'Devil's Advocate' which pokes fun at the aforementioned zealots and the fickle CD-buying-because-its-number-one-and-trendy crowd. The LP ends with 'Granite Teardrop', a repetitive and trance-like story of a man who's had enough of married life! This is well worth a listen if you can get hold of a copy."
